01 Aug Teddy Bear Paw Quilt
For years my husband has been asking for a monochromatic quilt for our bedroom. I’ve always responded with a half-hearted “good idea!” and then promptly forgotten the request when the next fun multi-coloured fabric collection came my way. UNTIL NOW!
Now, I admit I’m not the biggest fan of green when it comes to my fabric collection. In nature, sure! In my wardrobe, of course! In my salad bowl, duh! But when it comes to fabric, I tend towards warm tones. Pinks! Yellow! Orange! Yes, gimme all of them. But unless a green print comes in a bundle, or, I suppose a Christmas print, I tend to shy away. This was until I noticed recently that green — especially deep emerald green — is a rare colour in Ruby Star Society prints. I slowly started to collect green RSS prints like rare trading cards. And then I dove in head first and bought as many as I could find online to create this fabulous fabric pull.
The Teddy Bear Paw quilt pattern is my take on the classic bear paw quilt block, but modernized with soft curves. Each of the fabric prints are distributed throughout multiple blocks creating a lovely sense of texture, especially in a monochromatic version such as this one.
The long arm quilting was done by Shelly at Ma Tante Quilting and she used the Lovely Loops pantograph by Melissa Kelley. Once my quilt was finished I took it out to the beach for some photos…
