13 Feb The Absolutely Perfect Rainbow Quilt
When I sat down at my computer in January to draft up the perfect rainbow quilt block I had no intention of making it into a pattern for sale, I just wanted to make a cheerful modern quilt block with some of my favourite fabrics. Fast forward 5 weeks and it’s already one of my best selling patterns ever!!
It all started with this Instagram reel I made showing the process of adding each additional arc to my rainbow and some tips for sewing with curves. This little reel has been one of my top viewed reels to date, absolutely blowing my mind.
As my Instagram followers commented and cheered me on I made more blocks…
And then some more blocks…
And basically just kept going until I had 15 rainbows, each one becoming my new favourite in turn. I didn’t repeat any fabrics in my rainbows, and I’m happy to report that I made a [very] small dent in my stash of scraps.
It has been uncommonly overcast here in Winnipeg this winter so all these rainbow colours have helped me through the gloomy season.
Once I sewed all my blocks together, I prepped my quilt for machine quilting. I decided to do some basic cross-hatch quilting, and added some scalloped curves along the block seams. It’s a small-throw size quilt so the quilting went relatively quickly for me over the course of a quiet Saturday afternoon.
I used this gorgeous Rifle Paper Co. striped fabric for my binding and I think it is the “chef’s kiss” perfect finishing touch. The backing fabric is called “Starry” by Ruby Star Society.
